The Pool
Full-size. Ten feet deep. South-facing. Not a courtyard pool.
A pool worth swimming in
If you've toured apartments in Charlotte, you know the pool. It's tucked into the center of the complex — surrounded on three or four sides by buildings, catching maybe two hours of direct sun on a good day. You can tell just by looking: the water's always a shade too cold, the deck never quite dries out, and everyone's moved their chair to the one sliver of afternoon light that actually makes it through.
The Franciscan Terrace pool is not that pool.
It sits in open space at the edge of the grounds — south-facing, no buildings in the way, full sun from morning through evening. The water holds warmth across the day. The deck dries. It actually feels like summer. We have umbrellas not because the sun never shows up, but because sometimes it shows up too well.
At full size with a shallow end around 2.5 feet and a deep end at ten feet, it works for everyone — kids can wade and play in the shallow end while adults actually have depth worth swimming in. Most residential pools split the difference at four or five feet and serve neither well. This one doesn't make that compromise.
The deck was rebuilt with new pavers in 2020. This is a pool the community uses and maintains well — a genuine summer amenity, not a seasonal checkbox.

Pool FAQ
-
When does the pool open for 2026?
The board is targeting an early May opening for the 2026 season, subject to the required county inspection. The community prioritizes getting the inspection scheduled as early as possible each year — we're not the HOA that waits until Memorial Day.
-
What are the pool hours?
Sunrise to sunset, every day the pool is open. South-facing orientation means you get usable light across the full window.
-
Can I bring guests?
Yes — residents may bring up to 3 guests per visit, per the community bylaws. Residents are responsible for their guests' conduct while at the pool.
-
How deep is the pool?
The pool ranges from ~2.5 feet in the shallow end to 10 feet in the deep end. The shallow end is wadeable and great for kids; the deep end is actually worth diving into. Most residential pools pick a number in the middle and serve neither — this one doesn't.
-
Are there bathrooms at the pool?
Yes — two bathrooms in the adjacent clubhouse, steps from the pool deck.
